As adoption of the cloud becomes more widespread, some industries, such as healthcare, remain risk-averse. This isn’t to say that organizations within the healthcare industry aren’t taking advantage of the cloud—in fact, 83 percent of IT healthcare executives surveyed by HiMSS in 2023 said that they’re currently using cloud services for things such as hosting clinical and human resources (HR) applications, and for backup and disaster recovery. Additionally, the cloud computing market in healthcare is expected to reach $9.48 billion by 2020. However, industry leaders aren’t using the cloud to its fullest capacity due to strict regulations, the risk of data breaches and concerns with privacy, security and compliance.
While patient privacy is critical, the data aggregation and health information exchange (HIE) capabilities the cloud offers will help the healthcare industry make leaps and bounds in patient health outcomes. There’s a huge opportunity for healthcare in the cloud—and some organizations have taken notice.
